Product Management entails the coordination of a product from its inception, development and release in the market and even beyond. This process is centered on the following tasks: understanding customers’ requirements, defining product values, setting goals & visions, and working with cross-functional teams to create a product that fulfills the market’s needs.

A Product Owner is a job position within an organization implementing Agile frameworks for instance, Scrum. The Product Owner makes sure that each feature proposed by the Development Team will bring the most value possible to the product by controlling the product backlog.

A Product Owner has the primary responsibility for the vision, features and the overall value of the product that is created for the customer. A project manager is, for example, focused on the delivery of a project and how it is accomplished and where, on time, within the cost estimate prepared for the project. The Product Owner defines ‘what’ is to be developed and the Project Manager defines ‘how’ it is to be developed.

The role of the Product Manager is to be the leader in charge of the product vision, market analysis and positioning of a product within the strategic goals of the business. The Product Owner, on the other hand is more tactical and is involved in the day to day activities of the development team in realizing the vision of the product by managing the product backlog and architecture of the product features.
